How to remove red wine stains from carpet?
Ok, we know it’s winter and the red wine is mandatory for the season! But that also increases the chance of someone spilling a glass with red wine on your favorite carpet in the living room during a Friday night party!
Keep calm because we are going to help you clean it easily!
The first step is to blot up as much of the wine as possible. For the purpose use a paper towel. Be careful while doing it and be sure that you are not rubbing it hard. Be patient and remember that once you blotted up the major part of the spill, then you can successfully tackle the stains with a variety of wine stain methods.
When you have finished blotting the red wine stain, it is time to pour salt or baking soda onto the affected area. It will help absorbing the stain and it will be easily removed when you are ready to treat it and wash it. Be sure that you covered fully the stained area and let the salt/soda sit for 2-3 minutes. The next step is to rinse it with water.
You can also use vinegar combined with soap or soda – it is good for neutralizing the purple pigments of the wine.
Another trick is to use white wine to neutralize the red one – you may not believe but it is true! Pour white wine on the red wine stain and blot – it will help lifting the red wine stain from the carpet and also prevent it from spreading. If you don’t have white wine, you can try with vodka!
After the first steps, it is good to use a carpet shampoo or detergent. Remember that it is easier to clean the red wine stain when it is still fresh.
There are several good methods for removing red wine stains but you have to find out which one is yours. And remember – do not panic, there is a solution for every stain!
