Cleaning the coffee grinder

The blade grinder is often used for grinding spices or coffee. It is one of the daily used kitchen appliances which you may find impossible to clean. But now you are only a few steps away from making your grinder look like new again.

There is a quick and easy way to get rid of the oils and fragments left by grinding coffee and spices.

Here’s the cleaning procedure in a few steps. Continue reading.

What you need is some raw white rice. Instead of rice you can successfully use a piece of bread, sugar or salt.

Put a handful of uncooked white rice in your blade grinder and grind for about a minute or until it looks like dust. The rice bits will both dislodge residual spices and absorb their fragrant oils, eliminating all traces of flavor. Dump out the rice flour and repeat grinding a new handful of rice until it comes out clean and white.

Wipe out the grinder with a damp paper towel soaked in vinegar and you’ll get rid of all odors and residues.

It’s best to clean your grinder regularly to keep it shining – usually once a week would be enough.

To make cleaning easier you should buy one of those little coffee grinder brushes. Use it to brush the grinder out every time you make coffee, so nothing builds up. The nice thing is that after you use the brush, you can just toss it in the dishwasher.
